The Wolfgang Press had been around a long time and released many records before I picked one up, largely because they were on the 4AD label, and because I'd read some nice things about this release. On first listen, I was nonplussed; this was not at all what I was expecting. I put the record aside and listened again a few weeks later. On about the 3rd or 4th listen, I started to notice something interesting going on.

Try to imagine this: modern dance synths, with '60s/'70s Motown touches, coupled with straight vocals and to the point songs about the (sometimes) treachery of love. Hard to imagine, right. Well, this record is just that and on the whole it is incredible.

I've never listened to the Press's earlier work, and their subsequent (and last) release is somewhat different from this one. This is a one time one of a kind, and even the Randy Newman cover is cool!
