Stereolab is a noise band (at least they started out that way) with a twist. Check the personnel list and you'll see lots of Vox and Farfisa organs. These were the early electronic organs of the '60s used in pop music. These instruments have a distinctive sound (often quite cheesy) but are used to great effect by Stereolab, who tend to use more than one at a time!

I could have chosen almost any of Stereolab's prolific output as a favorite. Each has something special to offer. They have became more polished over the years, the noise content giving way to tighter rhythm and more focus on melody, but they haven't lost that spark of inventiveness that makes their music stand out.

I had occassion to see Stereolab in concert in a small Dallas venue in 1996. They put on a polished, but somewhat mechanical, performance. I saw them again in 2006, and the show was very nice, very fun, a great performance!
