Defining Eaten Foods

The Food Eaten Dialog is used to enter the foods you have eaten. This is where most of your activity will be centered. Here are the things you should know:

The first thing you should do is select Use Defined Food or Manual Entry.

  • Use Defined Food - most of the time you will use this option. In this mode, you select a food from your custom list using the Select Food button. Click on the Amount spin control (arrows) to set the number of portions and you are done!
  • Manual Entry - use this when you just want to enter nutritional information directly. For example, say you had a protein shake with a known quantity of protein in a water or other non-nutritional base. You could just enter 40 grams of protein click OK. Of course, if you drink similar shakes often, you should probably define them in the Food Item list.
  • Portions - type in the number of portions you ate, or click on the spin buttons. Note that the adjustment increment used for each click is specified on the Settings dialog.
  • Hour - this will default to the current hour but you may wish to adjust it.
  • Nutritional Values - in Use Defined Food mode you will rarely adjust these values, but in Manual Entry mode you will enter them directly.
  • Note that in Use Defined Food mode the description of the food is retrieved from the selected food item. But in Manual Entry mode you will need to enter a description. Also, note that in Manual Entry mode, the Portions value is frozen to 1.

There is a Setting that will cause the Select Food list to automatically pop up when you enter this dialog.

The Food Composition info is displayed on this dialog.
